Protein is an important part of our diet. People and companies who make a living selling powders and other dietary supplements want us to believe that our bodies need a lot of protein. But there are so many foods that contain enough protein to meet your needs without powder.

Do we need powder with a lot of protein?

Protein is one of the three important food components from which our body gets its energy : carbohydrates, protein and fat. As everyone knows, the main component of our muscles is the body’s own protein. And, according to the misconception formed by advertising, the more protein you eat, the more muscles you build.

Therefore, “training-optimizing” powders are often offered in order to maximize the desired muscle building in the gym .

First and foremost, the income of the seller is maximized. Because protein alone does not make muscles, only regular and effective training builds them up and effective training is not possible without carbohydrates!

So protein alone, especially from powder, makes no sense to maintain or build muscle mass.

Quite the opposite: Excessive protein intake puts a strain on the kidneys, as excess protein, converted to urea, has to be removed with the urine via the kidneys.

If the protein intake is too high, the kidneys are no longer able to filter the urea from the blood and kidney failure can result. A lot of protein can therefore do a lot of harm!

Fish, whether fresh or saltwater, is a good source of animal protein. Sea fish is also rich in iodine, which is also important for health, as our soils in Germany contain little of the trace element.

Fish also contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids, especially those fish species that live in cold waters and are therefore higher in fat. These include salmon, herring, mackerel and other fish that can be fished or farmed in our waters.

When you hear soy, you usually think of tofu immediately and will turn up your nose. But who knows how to properly prepare tofu also knows that soy is an extremely healthy and low-fat way to consume protein !

That said , eggs are not unhealthy. As with everything, the amount counts. Eggs are particularly popular with vegetarians as a source of protein.
