In addition, new cosmetics are often expensive because good quality is associated with high costs. It is therefore particularly annoying when they break when they can actually still be used.

Below we present three solutions to various problems that can arise in this context.

Reuse broken lipsticks

Tips for broken lipsticks

Before we introduce you to the methods of reusing lipsticks, let’s give you some tips you can keep in mind so that they break less often.

Often times it is mishaps that cannot be avoided, but in other cases the damage can be traced back to carelessness – without knowing what the reason could be.

In order to prevent such “accidents”, you should know the following:

  • Don’t screw the lipstick out all the way. To apply it, 1 centimeter is sufficient.
  • Be careful when you put the cap on as this will often cause the lipstick to be dented.
  • Be careful not to leave your lipstick in very warm places or expose it to the sun. This allows it to melt.
  • As much as possible, don’t drop it on the floor.

1. Broken lipsticks

This method is useful if the lipstick has broken into two large pieces, as smaller pieces can be more difficult. This trick is very simple; all you need is patience. But it pays off, because afterwards your lipstick will be like new.

Heat allows the pieces to reconnect completely as soon as they are again exposed to ambient temperature.

What you need:

  • 1 candle
  • 1 small wooden stick
  • Cooling compartment

What to do:

  • First light the candle.
  • Twist the lipstick completely out of the case.
  • Use extreme care when holding both parts of the lipstick against the flame. Be careful not to burn them in the process. As soon as they start to melt noticeably, remove them from the flame.
  • Press both pieces together under pressure. They will stay together now.
  • Use the wooden stick to seal the edges to make a complete piece again.
  • Finally, place the lipstick in the cooler for an hour so that it solidifies completely.

2. Melted lipsticks

If we leave our cosmetics in the car or near the heater on a hot summer day, it is very likely that lipsticks will melt. This is because their components do not tolerate high temperatures.

However, there is a way to fix it if this happens. This allows you to reuse your lipsticks without affecting the texture or color.

What you need:

  • 1 candle
  • 1 metal spoon
  • Paper napkins
  • 1 small container
  • Cooling compartment
  • 1 bracket

What to do:

  • First, lay out the paper napkins on a table to keep the table clean in case the lipstick drips on it while it is melting.
  • Now light the candle.
  • Place the melted lipstick on the spoon and hold it against the flame until it melts and lumps become visible.
  • Then empty the contents of the spoon into the container.
  • Use the clip to pull out the lipstick that was left on the bottom of the container and hold it up to the candle flame again.
  • Once all of the material has settled, cover the container.
  • Finally, place it in the refrigerator for an hour.

3. Bring old lipstick back to shine

If you have broken or old lipsticks, or if you just don’t like the color anymore, don’t throw them away. With a simple trick, you can turn them into shiny lipsticks that will look like new.

If desired, you can add two drops of cooking oil when you apply it for a better taste.

What you need:

  • pot
  • Metal container that takes up enough space in the pot
  • water
  • 1 spoon of beeswax (15 g)
  • Peeler
  • 2 spoons of liquid petroleum jelly (30 ml)
  • small container

What to do:

  • Fill the pot halfway with water.
  • Put it on until the water boils and then let it simmer slightly.
  • Use the vegetable peeler to rub the beeswax and pour it into the metal container.
  • Add the liquid petroleum jelly and mix everything well.
  • Add the lipstick afterwards. The amount depends on the shade you want.
  • Stir until all of the ingredients are completely melted.
  • At the end, pour everything into the small container and let it cool down.

With these three useful tips, you won’t have to part with your broken lipsticks in the future because you can easily reuse them. Try it!
