There are several natural home remedies that can be used to cleanse and remove wax from the ear canals. Some of the most popular means are:

Massage to loosen ear wax

To loosen the cerumen, the back of the ear can be gently massaged. Then pull the ear in different directions and open and close your mouth at the same time.

Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is recommended for both pain relief and wax removal. Proceed as follows:

Pour some water peroxide into a cup and use it to fill a dropper. It’s best to lie down and put a few drops in your ear. After about three to five minutes, you bend to one side to allow the liquid to come out again.

Always use lukewarm water. You can  also use baby oil or bottled water if you don’t have hydrogen peroxide on hand.

olive oil

Use the same procedure as above, but use olive oil. Leave the oil in your ear for a few minutes. Use this technique three times a day for three to four days.

Hot water

All you need for this simple yet effective home remedy is  an empty bottle and fill it with hot water.

Now you take the bottle (which is now lukewarm to hot) and hold it directly on your ear for 15-30 minutes. You will find that the wax is softening and you can now remove it more easily.

Enemas

Various special syringes are available for cleaning the ear canals. To do this, use lukewarm water (approx. Body temperature) and gently dry your ears after use.

Chamomile tea for ear care

Prepare an infusion with a few spoons of chamomile flowers and a glass of water. As soon as this is only lukewarm, you can sieve the flowers.

Before use, put three drops of olive oil in each ear and let it work for five minutes. Then rinse the ear well with the chamomile tea, preferably with the help of a dropper or a syringe.

  • Do not use  any objects to clean the ear canals, and cotton swabs are also not suitable, as this will only push the cerumen further into the ear.
  • If you have a misshapen eardrum, you should never try to clean it with home remedies or with hydrogen peroxide. This can damage the eardrum.
  • Do not use pressurized fluid to clean your ears, as this can damage the eardrum. Don’t clean your ears too often to avoid infections.
  • None of the above techniques should be used on children under the age of twelve as they could cause discomfort. Children are more sensitive and should definitely see a specialist.

Do not forget…

Ear wax protects against dust, microorganisms and other particles that could otherwise enter the auditory canal and damage it. Therefore, only clean your ear canals when it is really necessary (in the case of a blockage).

If you have frequent wax blockages , you should see an ear, nose and throat doctor. They can then prescribe the correct treatment to solve the problem.
