Eating healthy and common mistakes that are easy to avoid

Even people who eat healthily can make mistakes. Therefore, in today’s post we show ways  to easily improve your diet  and avoid common mistakes.

Even if you are short on time, you and your family can eat healthily. You just have to consider different aspects and make a habit of it. It is worth it!

Common mistakes that occur again and again in a healthy diet

1. Improvisation

Unhealthy diet

Most families (up to 80% according to some studies) do not plan their weekly meal plan. The result of this lack of organization is an unbalanced diet that often leads to obesity. Basic knowledge of food is required in order to convey certain criteria for a healthy diet to everyone and to learn how to be better organized.

A balanced nutrition plan and the appropriate advance planning make weekly shopping easier and also help to save money and work!

2. “Light” doesn’t have to be healthier!

In many cases, the reduction in fat in a product is achieved by other less healthy substances. So it is up to us to decide how often we consume this type of food so that the health balance of our diet is not altered. Therefore, these products should be consumed as consciously as possible.

Another mistake is to think that fat is inherently harmful. The body needs fats to function properly. Products that advertise “0% fat” also do not provide good fats that are important for the body. Unsaturated fatty acids are extremely important for combating bad cholesterol and also for other body processes.

3. Unhealthy diet: a few, large servings

Experts recommend five meals a day: the three main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and two snacks in between. If we do not give our body any food for a longer period of time (more than 3-4 hours), it is put on alert and all reserve mechanisms are triggered.

This means that our bodies begin to save energy and accumulate fat in order to be able to function anyway during the long hours when it is not fed. It is therefore extremely important to avoid these warning mechanisms in order to keep our bodies in proper balance.

4. Don’t eat breakfast or eat too late

Mistake in healthy eating: not eating breakfast

Skipping meals is a very common habit in society because of the “false” belief that it will help you lose weight faster. But breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gives us the energy we need for the rest of the day.

On the flip side, eating “abnormal” times is a bad habit too. The human digestive system is self-regulating and has its own schedules. Skipping them every day and eating too late, for example, can be detrimental to us and our health.

5. Too much salt in your diet

Too much salt in your diet can cause fluid retention in the body and blood pressure problems. This also has a negative effect on the kidneys and heart. Salt should therefore only be used in small quantities. You can partially replace it with herbs and spices.

6. Salad cannot replace vegetables

Many people think that they are already consuming enough vegetables with salads. But green lettuce with tomatoes and onions, for example, does not provide all the important nutrients for the body! Vegetables like  green beans, spinach, peas, cabbage, peppers, carrots, etc. are also important! Try to eat as varied as possible.

7. Too much meat and too few vegetables in the diet

Eating too much meat is a mistake in a healthy diet

Animal protein should only be consumed in small amounts. Instead, incorporate more legumes and whole grains into your diet. Small portions of poultry or fish are sufficient. Red meat should be eaten no more than once a week, but in no case daily. The real protagonists on the plate must be vegetables and legumes.

The best thing to do is to contact a nutritionist who can put together an individual nutrition plan for you.
